The order on the organization of the Department of "Social and humanitarian disciplines" was signed in 1997. As the head of the department Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Natalia A. Kebina was elected. The department contributes to the general cultural level of students, formation of their active life position, the ability to use knowledge of social sciences, humanities. To achieve these goals the teachers of the department organize training activities, using active forms of extracurricular activities (round tables, scientific conferences, excursions to the museums of the city and the region, literary evenings and meetings with interesting people, etc.) at a high scientific and methodological level. This allows expanding the horizons of students, creating opportunities to familiarize them with the history and culture of their native land. The department pays great attention to improving the level of aesthetic culture, instilling the etiquette skills. For the purpose of monitoring the teaching quality the department conducts various types of surveys and opinion polls. In 2012 the department encluded the direction of "Physical Training".

At the meetings of the seminars the issues relating to the theme of coursework of scientific papers are considered; theses of students’ reports. The students report back the content of their coursework (Assoc. Aitymova A.K.), indicate the way for further research for the preparation of SRW.

 Students’ scientific clubs and societies. At the Department of SGD and PE such student scientific clubs as the "Logos" (on philosophical sciences) and "Cosmopolitan" (linguistic disciplines: in the English, German, Kazakh and Russian languages) are created and work.

Traditionally a contest of presentations in philosophy and political science,  a seminar "The first in the hearts of compatriots" in philosophy (supervisor Kebina N.A.), debates (supervisor Tussupova G.B.), Ten days of languages of the people of Kazakhstan etc. are held.
